Revolving Doors

Published by AnksConsulting LLC under blog

I was at the DMV yesterday for two hours because I had to renew my driver’s license. So, while waiting for my number to be called, I was sitting near the door, and watching people as they went through it. This is a normal revolving door, like the countless others in New York City; nothing special about, nothing odd about it, just another normal revolving door. So, I’m sitting there, bored out of my mind… Every like 5 to 10 minutes a person would mess up going through the door. Either they would go the wrong way (the person that followed went the wrong way as well always), or their foot, or arm or something would get stuck and hit the door. I mean this second part is understandable when the door is revolving really fast, and they can’t get out of the way fast enough, but these people were pushing the door themselves and the door wasn’t even spinning that fast. It was just funny watching this whole thing. Probably isn’t that funny, but when you are bored out of your mind it gets to be funny.

Review: 300

Published by AnksConsulting LLC under blog

I watched the midnight showing of 300 last night; such an amazing movie. If you enjoyed Braveheart you’ll enjoy this as well. Basically, take Braveheart, remove some of the more meaningful dialog and add in a whole lot more blood/gore and you get this movie. The plot of the movie is very simple, 300 Spartans hold back the invading Persian army. The battle lasted three days, and all 300 Spartans died. The movie is excellent, the graphics are pure eye-candy, much like Ghost Rider, but the CGI is very impressive. The look is very unique, everything is in very sharp focus, very fine grained; reminds you of Sin City.

Leonidas, the king is excellent. The actor gives us a very multi-dimensional king whose love for his country, his soldiers, his son, his Queen and his freedom is enormous and the driving force in all he does. Lena Heady’s Queen Gorgo is an excellent actress. She plays her role as Queen very well, and complements her king perfectly. She makes sacrifices on the home front, to gain support for her husband’s battlefield pursuits, that are just as heart wrenching as those her King makes. The other Spartans, all contribute important dimensions in illustrating what makes these men such an elite fighting force. There are many battle scenes, but they never drag on endlessly. Each is compact and efficient, and there are even moments of humor scattered among the severed heads and limbs. The violence is very stylized, reminiscent of V for Vendetta, and didn’t make me turn away. The soundtrack is fantastic, with loud, heavy metal during battle scenes and more in the background at other moments

This is a movie that should not be missed by anyone. Highly recommend you watch it.

Review: Ghost Rider

Published by AnksConsulting LLC under blog

I watched Ghost Rider about a week ago now, never got around to writing the review for it… The movie isn’t anything that great. Visually it is a feast with the metamorphosis of the rider, but beyond this eye-candy, there isn’t much else there. The story is not that great, the dialog isn’t much better. Don’t go into this movie expecting an award winning plot or acting; go expecting an exciting movie and you’ll be fine.

This movie is all about the visual effects. Nicholas Cage plays the role well, simply because there is not much to it. While Cage is a good actor, he doesn’t get much chance to show it in this movie.

Watch this movie if you’re looking for something where you can sit back, turn your brain off and not worry about what’s going on.

Review: Invincible

Published by AnksConsulting LLC under blog

Invincible is the true story of how Vince Papale, a Philadelphia Eagles fan played pro football for three seasons with them. The story and acting of the movie are wonderful, and the movie does a good job in telling this true story. Mark Wahlberg gave a credible performance as a determined underdog that ends up getting everything. Why do most movies have the good guy winning in the end? How come the bad guys never win? That’s a side issue, but something to think about.

The movie is a little slow at times, bu think it needs to be slow as it builds up to the finale. The entire story is about how Papale got his position on the team, and less emphasis is placed on what happens at that point. This works well for such a movie.

Overall, I recommend you watch this movie, but it is not something that you should rush out to see right away.
