Why New Yorkers Live Longer Than Other Americans

Published by AnksConsulting LLC under blog

The very structure of the city coerces New Yorkers to exercise far more than people elsewhere in the U.S., in a way that is strongly correlated with a far-better life expectancy. Every city block doubles as a racewalking track, every subway station, a StairMaster. Seen this way, the whole city looks like a massive exercise machine.

Meteor Shower this Weekend

Published by AnksConsulting LLC under blog

As Earth passes through the ruble left behind from the Swift-Tuttle Comet, people in North America get a spectacular meteor shower show. The annual Perseid meteor shower reaches its peak this Sunday night, with hundreds of meteors per hour.

With the new moon, there will be less light to block your view, although it might be hard for those of you in a city with all of the ambient light. The meteors can appear anywhere, so the best bet is to look at the darkest part of the sky. Also, the later you stay up, the more meteors you’ll be able to see.

Faint meteors will appear as tiny streaks in the sky, but brighter ones will sail across the sky for several seconds, leaving a glowing trail.
