Last Ethics Class
So, I had my last ethics class today, and our teacher gave us some advice to sum up the semester.
- Markets are imperfect. What imperfection does your job depend on?
- Laws are incomplete. You need to find a balance between legal risk and maximizing return for shareholders.
- Wealth is random. The overwhelming factors that determine wealth, where you were born, who your parents are, intelligence, are random and you have no control over the,
- You’re on top. The die is already cast, the people that you are with will make a lot of money. But you will feel poor when you are making five figures because you’re boss is making half a million and living paycheck to paycheck.
- Choice is stressful. Are you in or are you out? If you stay in, you might get richer faster, but you might end up in jail. More importantly, when you choose something, you leave something behind; a path not taken.
- Death is certain. Make sure whatever you are striving for is what you really want. Make your life count for something.
I’ll expand on this soon, not tonight, because I need to go to bed.
