Logical Eccentricity

Really quick post, more later once the movie is done, but The Dark Knight on blu-ray is amazing. The blu-ray version really captures the movie experience.

For some reason, quarks randomly popped into my head the other night. I think I was taking about something strange (or maybe it was charm) and I thought of quarks. I know, I know, my brain is really weird for making that connection, but what can I do? So, that night I could easily think of four of them: strange, charm, up and down. For the life of me, I couldn’t remember the last two. Today, finally I remembered them: top and bottom.

So, there you have it. The six quarks are: top, bottom, up, down, strange and charm.

I saw the trailer for the Watchmen movie back at the start of summer when it aired with Iron Man. Since then, I’ve been trying to read the book since the trailer looked amazing. I finally got around to reading it the over the past weekend. This is the first “graphic novel” aka comic book I have read in a long time, and it was excellent. The plot, the characters, everything was extremely well done. I think the strongest point of the novel is the realistic portrayal of the superheroes, basically their human side. It makes for a really interesting read. My hope is that movie is true to novel, and they don’t get rid of a lot of things.

Couple of cool things to update on:

• I mentioned in a previous post that I had decided on what receiver I wanted to purchase, the Onkyo TX-SR606. Yesterday, I found an amazing deal for it, and was able to snag it for $260 (the retail price is $500 and Amazon has it for $350). So, a really nice deal that wouldn’t last very long. Now, I’m just waiting for it ship to me.
• I think I saw the Cash Cab cab this morning. As I was walking to work, I saw a cab in front of me and it had a little sticker on the door that said something along the lines of this cab has cameras in it, and that you will be photographed when you get in. This is the first time I’ve seen a sticker like this, and, at least according to some poeple that are hunting for a chance to be in the Cash Cab, midtown is the right place to look for it. I’m not sure since I didn’t get into the cab, but it’s the first real possibility that I’ve seen.
• Have a great Thankgiving, and if you go shopping on Friday good luck finding the deals you want. And be safe if you’re traveling.

I know, I’ve been terrible at updating this blog on a regular basis; I really should work on it going forward. So, what have I been up to in the last month or so? I’ve still been busy at work, same project as before had another part to it that we needed to get done. No late nights, but just a lot of work as a result. I’m also continuing my studying for the CFA test on December 6th… I hope I do well on it; since it pretty much covers the four years at Stern. I’m really not sure why I’m taking the test, it doesn’t matter for my current job, and won’t matter for a job going forward, probably. I’m doing it for the sake of doing it.

I’ve also started work on application essays for my MBA. I have to write four essays and I’ve got a draft done for one of them, and basic outlines for two more. The final essay shouldn’t be too difficult either, so I think I’m on track for the application process. I’ve also been seeing a lot more places in Hoboken; I’ve seen a total of 15 places over the past several weekends and I really liked four of them. I think when I’m going to be ready to make offers (January) there should be plenty of choices available to me.

Finally, Stern recently sent out a little survey asking for feedback from recent alumni, along with a chance to win a pair of tickets to the Stern Alumni Ball. Since I know Stern had terrible response rates, most email surveys have low rates, I decided to fill it out and enter the raffle drawing. And I ended up winning the tickets. So, I’ve got a pair of tickets to the Stern Alumni Ball on December 6th. It’s supposed to a very classy event, and this year it is at the Rose Center at the Natural History Museum, so it should be a fun time. I should put some pictures up from the party at some point, so look for a link or something.
